Children’s Librarian, Sherborn Library, (Sherborn, MA)

The newly renovated and expanded Sherborn Library has recently opened its doors. We are
seeking a full-time Children’s Services Librarian to join our excellent team and provide services
in our new children’s wing and teen room. Responsibilities include working with young adult,
‘tween, and child patrons and their caregivers in cooperation with the Teen Librarian. The
Children’s Librarian participates in collection development, manages an acquisitions budget,
initiates programming with the support of our vibrant Friends of the Library group, provides
reference and readers’ advisory services, coordinates resources with the schools, and promotes
the Library’s mission in the community.
Qualifications
Master of Library Science (MLS) is required or significant progress towards the MLS. Relevant
work experience with youth, knowledge of the literature and background in developing
programs are essential skills. Familiarity with the array of technology currently offered in the
public library setting and competency in standard office environment software is beneficial. The
ideal candidate will be an innovative, self-motivated professional who is dedicated to public
service, is aware of youth culture, and is able to present a consistently positive attitude to the
public and the staff.
