Summer School Overview:
Summer@Carroll is a five-week summer school program for students entering grades 1-9 who have been diagnosed with a language-based learning difference, such as dyslexia. Students participate in academic classes and recreational programming each day.

Position Summary:
This position reports to the Enrichment Supervisor for their assigned grade range in Waltham (grades 1-4) or Lincoln grades (grades 5-9). In the mornings, this position serves as a Teaching Assistant, supporting students and working under the direction of an experienced teacher in the classroom for an assigned subject such as math, writing, or activity block. This position serves as a Counselor every afternoon, leading groups of approximately 6-12 students in fun activities. Counselors work in conjunction with Activity Directors, who typically design activities for the afternoon. Some afternoons, the Teaching Assistant/Counselor will have an opportunity to plan the activities.
Responsibilities:
- Attend mandatory Staff Orientation on June 27-28, 2024.
- Follow the daily schedule in supporting teachers during class time and planning or executing the afternoon enrichment activities
- Follow instruction and cues of their classroom teachers to assist all of the needs of the students in their class.
- Supervise and positively encourage all the students in the group, for both morning classes and afternoon enrichment.
- When necessary, redirect individual students’ behavior to maintain a positive group dynamic.
- Communicate and collaborate with the School Counselor so that any student social-emotional challenges that arise may be addressed.
- Instruct and include the Junior Counselor/CIT in group activities
- Organize, plan, and encourage student participation in special theme day activities
- Update Enrichment Supervisor regarding any issues impacting the students’ readiness to positively interact within the group.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Prior experience working with children is beneficial
- Entering Sophomore year of college or beyond in the fall of 2024
- Willingness to be reflective and grow from administrative feedback
