The Town of Charlton seeks to fill a full-time, benefit-eligible Assistant Library Director position. The Assistant Director/Head of Adult Services works closely with the Library Director to ensure the effective and responsive operation of the Charlton Public Library. As Assistant Director, assumes the responsibilities of the Director in the Director’s absence. As head of Adult Services, is responsible for management and operation of Adult Services within the Library.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA accredited school; three years’ professional public library experience with emphasis on working directly with the public, including two years in a supervisory role; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices of professional library work and of the organization.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

- Ability to enforce library and town policies fairly and tactfully, procedures and protocols.
- Ability to perform a variety of administrative, organizational, accounting and word processing tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of reference and reader advisory sources (print and digital), databases, and research techniques
- Ability to prioritize and complete projects independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, agencies, town departments, vendors, and the public.
- Complete familiarity with integrated library systems (Evergreen preferred) and related applications.
- Catalog and reference skills, budgeting skills and skills in pursuing and administering grants required.
- Ability to assist with overseeing building maintenance, grounds, and equipment to ensure proper working and safe for public of all ages.
- Strong analytical, administrative, organizational, word processing and computer skills
- Proficient with computers, library software and applications.
Pay
Hiring Pay Range: $60,673.60 – $66,966.80 dependent on qualifications.
