General Summary of Position:
The UMass Lowell University Library seeks a collaborative and service-oriented part-time associate to join the Systems & Discovery team at the University Library. Reporting to the Digital Services & Technology Librarian, the Library Systems & Discovery Associate will be responsible for documenting and troubleshooting e-resource issues, supporting data collection and analysis, supporting software and platform administration, as well as creating and maintaining documentation.
Example duties include:
1. Manage and authorize database accounts for faculty, staff, and students
2. Perform regular maintenance and inventory of EZproxy
3. Investigate and resolve content discovery issues; may include technical intervention, vendor communication, etc.
4. EBSCOadmin maintenance and troubleshooting
5. Create and maintain documentation for day-to-day workflows
6. Assist staff with LibApps administration; troubleshoot and triage requests
7. Contribute to the further development and maintenance of troubleshooting documentation for library staff
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in library science, information science, or related field, and at least 1 year of experience working with library systems in a library setting; we will consider people who are currently in an LIS master’s program or those with a bachelor’s degree in a highly relevant field that supports the job functions and responsibilities of the position, if accompanied by 3 or more years of library experience, at least 1 of which involved working with library systems.
Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment
- Working knowledge of a range of library systems, platforms, and applications such as ILS, ERM, discovery, and SpringShare’s LibApps suite
- Working knowledge of the electronic resource lifecycle
- Ability to troubleshoot and document complex discovery issues across, and involving, several platforms, access points, and vendors; ability to communicate effectively with users, vendors, and colleagues
- Facility and comfort working with a variety software and hardware
Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence of working effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the community; commitment to providing equitable service to a diverse population
- Familiarity or willingness to learn HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Experience working with digital repositories and content
Schedule: Opportunities for remote work may be available; schedule to be determined in consultation with the Digital Services & Technology Librarian
