Position Title: Evening Library & Education Program Assistant

Located in Newton Centre, the Boston Psychoanalytic Society & Institute (BPSI) is a leading
post—graduate educational institution and membership society that offers training in psychoanalysis
and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. We are a large complex volunteer membership organization and at
its core, BPSI provides a home for education, development, and collegial intellectual exchange
throughout the professional lives of psychoanalysts and psychoanalytic psychotherapists. To ensure the vitality of these core activities, BPSI strives to foster a dynamic and diverse learning community that supports and recognizes a wide spectrum of psychoanalytic and psychotherapeutic careers. BPSI offers free on-site parking and is a short walk from the Newton Centre T Station. The Hanns Sachs Library offers members access to print and electronic journals, over 8,000 psychoanalytic texts, and our Archive services researchers around the globe.
Responsibilities as a Library and Education Program Assistant:
- Assist the Librarian by performing circulation duties, such as cataloging and reshelving, checking out materials, answering emails, and journal article retrieval.
- Formatting class syllabi and the preparation, distribution, receipt, and record keeping of class evaluations and the creation of continuing education certificates.
- Participation in the maintenance of all library and organizational databases and websites.
- Preparation and distribution of memos and related materials.
- Working BPSI events, programs, and class nights, as necessary.
- Performing ad-hoc project work in collaboration with team members.
- Welcoming visitors, answering phones, and assisting with wayfinding information.
- Provide support to the membership, including but not limited to:
- Responding to inquiries via phone or email.
- Providing basic technical user support (such as password and program registration).
- Providing support with A/V, internet access, copier, and printers for members.
- Other duties as needed.
Building Responsibilities:
- When evening hours are required and alongside another team member, ensure the building is
secure at the end of the evening. - Partner with team members to set up food and/or refreshments for special class dinners and
events.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Experience with Windows 10/11 and Mac OS, Microsoft 365, Zoom, and WordPress. o Knowledge of Donor Perfect, Constant Contact, and GiveCloud is a plus but not required.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting various computer issues (MAC and PC).
- Exceptional organization and communication skills.
- Proactive self-starter: ability to anticipate problems and creatively contribute solutions.
- Outstanding customer service, interpersonal, and listening skills with capacity to pay close attention to detail.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and ability to realign
- priorities as needed.
- Comfort with evening building management.
- A minimum 2-year college degree, 4-year degree preferred, or equivalent life experience.
Schedule/Salary/Benefits
This is an 18–22-hour part-time position, on-site in Newton Centre, MA.
Must be available to work evenings during the academic year (Sept 1 – June 30) until 10pm. Classes are held every Thursday evening during the academic year, and on some Mondays and Wednesdays.
Occasional monthly Saturday morning events, September-June.
Flexible Summer hours (July 4th – Labor Day)
Salary $20-$23/hr., negotiable and commensurate with experience and skills
