Description:

The Outreach Manager provides professional library and managerial services in a diverse community to patrons of all ages. This position plans and leads adult programming and develops and sustains relationships with community organizations. The Turner Free Library is in the process of acquiring a brand new, state-of-the-art bookmobile/STREAM (science, reading, technology, engineering, arts, and math) lab, which the Outreach Manager will be able to utilize. The Outreach Manager will collaborate with other department heads in providing outreach services to specific age groups. 

The Outreach Manager works with a high degree of independence and will need to exercise considerable judgment, develop rapport with library patrons, and supervise and support library staff. 

This is a 35-hour in-person, work week, exempt, non-union position; some nights and weekends are required.

This vibrant, active community is especially well known for its Night Before the Fourth Parade and Harvest Hoopla events. The TFL has served as Randolph’s public library since 1874 and remains a hub of community life for both education and recreation. The beautiful, light-filled building was completely renovated in 2016 and is visited by an average of 300 people each day! The Town of Randolph is dedicated to ensuring the Turner Free Library is well supported through staffing, funding, and community collaboration. Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides inclusive services to patrons from a large array of national, lingual, and cultural backgrounds
  • Plans, publicizes, carries out and supervises innovative, diverse, and relevant programming for adults (including, but not limited to, computer classes, book clubs, and summer reading). The Outreach Manager will also work collaboratively with other department heads 
  • Knowledge of principles, materials, and equity of access issues related to serving adults and older adults; demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge to program and service design and to establish positive relationships with adults
  • Applies for and manages grants and reporting as needed to support innovative library programs and services 
  • Coordinate engaging, intergenerational programs at the library, Randolph Intergenerational Center, schools, and outdoor locations
  • Manages outreach vehicle and conducts off-site library card registration; provides library materials to designated facilities and locations 
  • Select, evaluate, and maintain collections in accordance with the library collection development policy and allocated budgets. Actively promote library resources through programming, merchandising, and creating book lists, resource guides, and displays
  • Provides staff supervision in the evenings, on weekends, and may be required to work at the circulation desk occasionally
  • Provides exemplary customer service; routinely addressing complaints and effectively resolving complications
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervision: Reports directly to the Library Director, but generally works independently or in collaboration with other department heads

Work Environment: Work is performed under typical public library conditions, but will also include visits to local senior housing, community center, parks, and other locations as needed. There is some moderate to heavy lifting of books and other materials. 

Qualifications: 

  • A Master’s Degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school is preferred
  • 1-3 years experience in public program planning required

License Requirement: Massachusetts driver’s license in good standing or ability to obtain such 

CORI Requirement: Must successfully pass a CORI background check
