The Town of Falmouth is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Head of Adult Services to lead this division
of the Falmouth Public Library (FPL). The Head of Adult Services is a senior-level, highly responsible
managing librarian position with oversight of both the Adult and Young Adult services, including reference services.This position plans, organizes, and oversees services for adults and young adults, including programming, selection of materials, collection management, outreach, and reference services. The Head of Adult Services manages three full-time professional librarians (two Reference Librarians and our Young Adult Librarian) and one part-time Library Assistant and participates in meetings related to all FPL services and activities.
The Falmouth Public Library is a well-supported and well-loved, busy library that is frequented by the
residents of Falmouth and the surrounding towns as well as by our share of the tens of thousands of
summer visitors to Falmouth. The Main Library houses one of the largest adult and juvenile physical
collections on Cape Cod and boasts a Young Adult Room within the Adult Services division to provide a
designated space to welcome patrons in grades 7 – 12. The Head of Adult Services primarily works out of the Main Library but also works with FPL’s North and East branches.
This is a full-time position that works 37.5 hours per week, including some Saturday and evening hours,
with some schedule flexibility. The ideal candidate is creative, energetic, and flexible with a welcoming demeanor and a desire to foster an inclusive space. The successful applicant also has excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and customer service skills. Minimum requirements include a master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution and more than three years of increasingly responsible professional library experience, including supervisory and reference services experience. This position requires a broad knowledge of the principles of professional library work and adult literature and a strong understanding of library programs, services, technology, staff management, and reference operations.


Starting Wage: Step 1 $31.39/hour – Step 4 $35.32/hour, with room to grow along the 7-step pay scale.
