Job Description:

Part-Time Reference Librarian- Lynn Campus

Non-benefited, MCCC unit position

20 hour per week

Monday – Friday

Some evening/weekend hours, including Wednesday and Friday 1-6.

We seek diverse, equity-minded candidates who bring new perspectives and experiences to enrich our educational community. Working closely with the staff of the Lynn Campus Library, the part-time Reference Librarian is responsible for providing high-quality instruction and research assistance to students, faculty, and staff in active virtual and in-person academic environments.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Deliver engaging information literacy instruction for individuals and groups and develop innovative pedagogy to achieve desired learning outcomes.
  2. Develop resources and tutorials on searching, publishing, information management, and other topics of interest.
  3. Serve as a liaison with academic departments and instructors to provide library support of instruction, student learning, outreach, and collection development. 
  4. Responsible for library operations during assigned working hours, including working cooperatively with circulation staff and supervising student workers.
  5. Provide access services support using Koha ILS
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Library Director


Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science, Library & Information Science, or experience and/or training that includes library operations, library information systems, reference services, bibliographic instruction, circulation services, and cataloging; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Current MLIS students are welcome to apply.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Strong presentation/instructional skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently with little supervision.
  • Patience and flexibility in handling people, technology, and problems. Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Fluency in a language in addition to English (highly preferred).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or a National background check as a condition of employment.


Additional Information:

Salary: $32.00 per hour, non-benefited position
