Library Advisory Specialist, Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, MA

The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners is looking for an experienced library professional to
join our team as our Library Advisory Specialist.
This position reports to the Head of Library Advisory and Development. The Library Advisory Specialist
advises and responds to inquiries from public library directors, library trustees, Friends of Library
organizations, library foundations, municipal officials, and others. Develops and conducts continuing
education programs for library directors, staff, trustees, and Friends organizations. Fosters partnerships
and serves as liaison to professional associations, state agencies, and municipal officials. Organizes and
maintains the Agency’s professional library.
The successful candidate is someone with at least 4 years of experience in a library setting working with
library administrators, library trustees, and Library Friends groups, who is a passionate result driven
professional with the ability to network, forge partnerships and deliver thoughtful, timely, and accurate
advisory services.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have at least A) 4 years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in
libraries, with a role in public library administration preferred or B) any equivalent combination of the
required experience and substitutions below.
Substitutions:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in librarianship may be substituted for two years of the required
    experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience.
  • A Master’s or higher degree in librarianship may be substituted for three years of the
    required experience on the basis of two years for one year of experience.

NOTE: Educational substitutions will only be permitted for a maximum of three years of the required
experience.


Salary Range: $76,176.62 – $103,533.04
This is a hybrid position with the home base at the MBLC Office in Boston. Regular travel in the state and
occasional travel out of the state is necessary. Attendance at evening and weekend meetings on an
occasional basis is necessary in carrying out duties as described.
