Reports To: Director; Assistant Director; Coordinator of Community Planning
Salary: $26.6896 (min.) to $29.9186 (max) per hour; Grant-funded.
Union: MVEA Unit C
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Work Schedule: 35 hrs weekly. Hours may include evening and weekend shifts with advance
notice due to outreach activities
Duties:
- Works under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Community Planning.
- Develops regular scheduled calendar of visits for outreach vehicle to sites across Lowell,
especially those serving children, seniors and underserved populations throughout the city —
such as schools, parks, playgrounds, senior housing, assisted living communities and
community centers. - Develops and coordinates off-site programs and partnerships with local organizations and
institutions. - Works collaboratively with ancillary library groups, city departments, community leaders,
agencies, non-profits, groups and vendors. - Loads and unloads book trucks on the outreach vehicle and drives vehicle to outreach
facilities. - Develops regular maintenance schedule and coordinates repairs for outreach vehicle.
- Performs collection development and maintenance for the outreach vehicle.
- Maintains outreach circulation records. Receives and processes requests, processes library
card applications, checks out materials, handles overdue problems, collects fines due, and
handles returns. - Receives and responds to queries and requests.
- Delivers books to homebound patrons.
- Develops outreach activities to promote library programming, resources and services.
Promotes new and existing library resources and services in person and through print, web
and other media. - Creates marketing materials for the outreach vehicle and services using desktop publishing
software, email marketing software, and graphic design applications. - Publicizes the outreach vehicle’s calendar, programs and services.
- Writes press releases, reports and memos using MS Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Performs public speaking to diverse audiences at off-site programs and events.
- Is conversant and interested in emerging library technology and services and their real world
application for staff and patrons. - Seeks out alternative sources of funds for programs such as grants in coordination with the
library and city leadership. - Provides excellent customer service by assisting patrons at outreach visits with identifying
requested library materials and using library resources. - Performs other related duties as assigned.
- This position is in person with no ability to work remotely.
Qualifications:

population an asset; experience in community outreach programs, public speaking, public relations
and/or literacy programs preferred. Must possess valid driver’s license (or be able to obtain one) with
an acceptable driving history. - Applicants with skills in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Khmer and other languages present in
Lowell encouraged to apply. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to
detail required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional
journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to
questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common
fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar
graphs. - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where
only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written,
