We are seeking a dedicated Oral History Transcriber Intern to join our archives team. Responsibilities include transcribing recorded interviews, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail. The ideal candidate should have strong listening and typing skills, proficiency in transcription software, and an interest in preserving historical narratives. They should have somewhat a proficient awareness of Catholic history and an openness to learning about the experiences of The Congregation of The Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston. This internship provides a unique opportunity to contribute to our archival efforts and gain hands-on experience in oral history preservation.
This project involves the digitization of oral histories conducted in the 1970s and 1980s and centers on the experience of women religious (Catholic sisters, nuns) during a time of social and cultural change within the Church, after the Second Vatican Council.
Responsibilities:
- Transcribe recorded oral history interviews
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of transcriptions
- Collaborate with archival team members
- Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to historical content
Skills and Requirements:
- Strong listening skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in transcription software/tools
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Interest in history and preserving oral narratives
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong accurate and efficient typing ability
- Current SLIS/Archives Management student looking to gain experience in an Archives, or a recent graduate interested in the project
