The Department of Library Services at Bridgewater State University (BSU) invites applications
for a full-time, benefited Library Assistant III position in the Education Resources area. Library
Services is dedicated to meeting the needs of its communities, to updating its service models as
pedagogies and librarianship evolve, to renewing the knowledge and skills of librarians and staff
as practices change, to deploying new technologies to improve interactions with library users
and to enhance user experiences. Successful candidates will be staff members who can work
with their colleagues to help meet the mission of the department in serving and supporting our
diverse campus community.
The Clement C. Maxwell Library at BSU is open an average of 94 hours each week during the
academic year. It is a busy, dynamic place with classrooms, academic and administrative
offices throughout the building. The library serves all BSU students, faculty, staff, researchers
from across the country and world, as well as the residents of the surrounding communities.

Position Summary:
The Library Assistant III in the Education Resource Center is responsible for a number of crucial
functions, including but not limited to, providing general library and research assistance,
creating and revising curriculum resource lists, circulating specialized education-related
materials, processing a variety of new materials, preparing monthly service statistics,
participating in collection inventory projects, and other duties as assigned. Besides such duties,
the position shelves materials, participates in library-wide meetings, attends workshops to
enhance job knowledge, and provides excellent customer service.
Tour of Duty:
Tuesday through Friday, 8:45 am to 5:00 pm
Saturday, 8:15am to 4:30pm
(Sundays and Mondays as days off)

Essential Duties:
- Provide general library, research, and reference assistance in person, electronically, or via the
telephone. - Assist customers with online database searching and discovery, with searching the library’s
online catalog and using a variety of education-related resources and reference materials,
including K-12 textbooks, juvenile literature, tests, test reviews, curriculum guides, teaching kits
as well as other relevant resources. - Staff the ERC Service Desk as scheduled. In addition, staff the Main Library Services Desk for 1
hour per day. - Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of students from diverse backgrounds with a wide
range of abilities. - Update, create, and revise curriculum resource guides, other relevant Center documents, and
web pages. - Circulate specialized education-related materials such as standardized tests, reserve items, and
special permission loans of non-circulating materials when appropriate. - Assist with the management of the physical collections by re-shelving and re-filing resources,
and as directed rearranging the Center’s various collections. - Compile and prepare on a monthly basis a variety of statistics using standard tools.
- Conduct group tours and, under the direction of the Education Librarian, offer bibliographic
instruction sessions as needed. - Assist with training, supervising, and evaluating student workers.
- In consultation with supervisor, assist with developing and documenting policies, goals, and
procedures. - Cover the main Access Services desk when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Applicant must have at least two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paraprofessional
experience as a library assistant, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity, or any
equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions per the state job

- Ability to communicate effectively.

- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, to bend, stoop, reach, and push heavy book carts.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Office productivity applications.
- Experience using library automated systems and the equipment typically found in libraries (i.e.,
printers, photocopiers, scanners, etc.) - Knowledge of educational library research and reference materials and general library
services. - Academic library experience, especially in customer services.
- Associate’s degree or higher.
- Familiarity with basic concepts in teacher education, educational pedagogies and practices.
- Experience and comfort with leading group tours.
- Enthusiastic and motivated self-starter.
Rate of Pay: $1,802.51 bi-weekly (Grade 14, Step 1)
