The Clement C. Maxwell Library is open an average of 94 hours each week during the
academic year. It is a busy, dynamic place with classrooms, academic and administrative
offices throughout the building. The library serves all BSU students, faculty, staff, researchers
from across the country and world, as well as the residents of the surrounding communities.
Library Services is dedicated to meeting the needs of its communities, to updating its service
models as pedagogies and librarianship evolve, to renewing the knowledge and skills of

Position Summary:
The Library Assistant III (LAIII) is a full-time position which reports to the Systems Librarian and collaborates with colleagues in the Technical Services department and throughout the library to assist in the administration of library systems. In addition, the Systems LAIII participates in library-wide meetings, provides excellent customer service, and performs other related duties as assigned.
Tour of Duty: 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday,
(Saturdays and Sundays as days off)

Essential Duties:

SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT:

  • Serve as co-chair of Social Media Committee.
  • Manage HootSuite including making sure posts are scheduled, filling in for committee members in their absence, training new committee members, responding to comments and interactions, and following accounts.
  • Create and manage EngageBSU account and post relevant content and updates for
    the BSU community.
    CALENDAR MANAGEMENT:
  • Maintain the library website’s calendar including posting events and changing library open hours for semester and intersession.
  • Maintain the Koha (Integrated Library System) calendar.
    SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE:
  • Perform routine maintenance and updates of website content including fact checking and link checking.
  • Update ComCat patrons in Koha with monthly update data.
  • Support the configuration and use of Springshare tools, including LibApps, LibChat, and LibGuides.
    USER EXPERIENCE & OUTREACH:
  • With the Systems Librarian, create, organize, and perform usability studies.
  • Performing usability research on library website and social media, including running and analyzing
    reports.
    LIBRARY TECH SUPPORT:
  • With the Systems Librarian, train librarians and staff in the use of new and existing software and
    technology services as necessary.
  • Help with first line troubleshooting of loanable technology as necessary.
  • Assist with troubleshooting of technology problems reported by library staff.
  • Assist the Systems Librarian with reporting and collection of usage statistics from library applications.
    Required Qualifications:
  • Applicant must have at least two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paraprofessional experience
    as a library assistant.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Self-motivated and able to work under minimal supervision at times
  • Knowledge of and ability to prepare general reports.
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft 365 applications including Teams
  • Web application programming experience including but not limited to HTML, XML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience with Drupal CMS
  • Experience using a wide variety of library system platforms and applications, and current library-related
    hardware and software
  • Experience with Koha ILS, ILLiad, Springshare LibApps (LibGuides, LibChat, LibCal, LibWizard, and
    LibAnswers)

Pay Rate: $1,802.51 bi-weekly (Grade 14, Step 1)
