Needham, MA (32,091 pop.), is seeking a skilled Library Director to provide
leadership for the library system by overseeing all library operations to
ensure the effectiveness and efficiency in the delivery of services and
activities. Needham is a primarily residential suburban community with a
strong sense of community, thriving downtown, and easy access to Boston.
The Town has a AAA rating and robust economy. The library has
approximately 50 staff members and the Director will have leadership in
implementing the recently completed 5-year strategic plan as well as
numerous building improvement projects. The Director should be a
collaborative and experienced leader and manager of people who is
flexible, approachable, and considers different viewpoints.
Candidates should have extensive knowledge of professional library principles,
practices, and services; knowledge of library administration and
management; strong financial management skills, and be a team builder
who values and empowers staff. Requires Master of Library Science degree
from an A.L.A. accredited institution, with at least 7 years of library service
including progressive levels of supervisory, management, and financial
responsibilities. Certification by the Mass. Board of Library Commissioners
is required upon appointment.
Annual salary: $130K+/-, DOQ. PE/ADA/EOE.
