This is a great opportunity with Otsuka’s global information division for an information or library science master’s candidate to learn about pharmaceutical information services and gain valuable career experience. We are hoping to have some on-site meetings, so we are seeking candidates in the NJ or MD/DC area but are also considering remote interns.

Job Description
Otsuka’s Information Resource Center (IRC) provides timely, value-added intelligence and information services to enable effective business decisions in global drug development and commercialization.
We deliver competitive intelligence, clinical trials intelligence, market research, annual sales data/forecasts, biomedical literature, pipeline and marketed drug information, regulatory intelligence, and more to our colleagues across Otsuka worldwide.
The intern will have the following responsibilities:
- Respond to global information requests to support business decisions.
o Become proficient in processes to respond to scientific, pipeline, clinical trials, and business information requests.
o Acquire skills in testing and using artificial intelligence (AI) tools including the AI literature search tool, Navigate.
o Learn IRC standard operating procedures and provide feedback to streamline processes.
o Develop capability in providing system support for RightFind (Otsuka’s global article ordering system).
- Support IRC’s global outreach program.
o Participate in training sessions to develop expertise in pharma information resources. Interactively ask questions and create polling or questions to engage attendees to obtain user experience. Provide feedback to trainers.
o Manage records and support operations of global database training sessions to increase return on investment (ROI).
o Support creation of engaging training modules for self-service training provided by the IRC.
The intern will complete two projects in support of IRC department goals:
- 2 complex intelligence requests utilizing Otsuka’s licensed information resources to support the IRC goal of increasing service utilization, generating cost savings for Otsuka.
- 1 training module utilizing an Otsuka licensed resource.
Qualifications/ Required
Knowledge/ Experience and Skills:
- Office Skills: Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Exposure to college-level library/information research and discovery tools.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented and able to adhere to well-defined and well-established departmental procedures and processes.
- Have initiative and proactively strive for superior customer service and outcomes.
- Interest in building and maintaining effective relationships and partnerships with internal customers and external vendors.
- Demonstrate ability to think creatively to solve complex problems.
Educational Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in Masters in Information Sciences or Library Science.
- Completed first year of program.
- Preferred interests and/or college majors: biomedical, pharmaceutical sciences, or other areas of interest.
