Description:
The temporary Outreach Librarian will provide administrative and outreach support for the
Knowledge & Research team at UCS. They will also provide support for workflow projects and
community building among the research staff. The Librarian will also support one of two
projects relating to scholarly communication or internal communications.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential job duties/responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the
information listed below:

  • Catalog UCS publications and scholarly material as they are published;
  • Assist staff in accessing electronic resources and fulfill interlibrary loan requests;
  • Manage a portfolio of subscriptions;
  • Support staff in managing research data;
  • Drive knowledge sharing via Communities of Practice and actively participate in
    organizational KM initiatives;
  • Work with the Science and Innovation Office in implementing procedures to ensure
    adoption of research data management best practices;
  • Create onboarding and marketing material;
  • Co-plan, schedule, and implement programming that highlights new Research Support
    tools and services;
  • Represent K&RS at events and committee meetings, as needed.

Basic Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science with Bachelor’s degree in a field such as science,
    computer science, social science, political science, English, communications/marketing
    and one to two years of comparable experience.
  • Either data curation and database management experience with knowledge of FAIR
    principles or previous experience with user design and information architecture are
    desired.
  • This position requires strong research, written, oral, relationship-building, and academic
    social network communications skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse general audiences, scientific
    professionals, and decision makers.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to
    simultaneously manage and prioritize many tasks, and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn new technological tools, applications, and techniques continuously is
    desirable.
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude; ability to work in an environment that can become
    fast-paced near deadlines.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Physical Requirements: Will require extended periods at a computer.
Travel: Occasional travel may be required.
