Position Title: Assistant Children’s Librarian
Department: Wayland Free Public Library
Full Time/hours: 35 hours/week (one evening, plus Saturday rotation)
Union/Grade: Library Association / L-4
Salary Range: $54,403 – $70,977, plus benefits

Description of Position:
The Wayland Public Library is calling all friendly, creative, self-motivated, flexible, customer
service-oriented champions to join the Wayland Team as the next
Assistant Children’s Librarian.
Under the direction of the Head of Children’s Services, the Assistant Children’s Librarian
provides library services for babies through teens, families, caregivers, and teachers. The
Assistant Children’s Librarian offers story times and craft programs, helps plan and run the
annual summer reading program, provide readers’ advisory, assists with collection
development, creates flyers and displays, circulates library materials and does outreach to
schools. Supervises the Children’s Room in the absence of the Head of Children’s Services.
Responsible for keeping current with emerging technologies as they relates to youth services.
Promotes our programs and services by helping support the Library’s web and social media
presence.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Master’s Degree in Library Science or Children’s Literature. Will consider
candidates who are within six months of attaining a graduate degree.
Experience: Knowledge of children/teen literature and experience in children’s and teen
programming. Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Google Workplace, Canva, and
social media. Knowledge of Sierra preferred.
