Description
The Town of Needham is seeking an enthusiastic individual to fill the part-time position of Reference Librarian at the Needham Free Public Library.

Duties and Responsibilities

Advise and assist individuals in selecting, locating, and utilizing resource materials
Assist the Reference Supervisor in coordinating and implementing activities to ensure effective and efficient research and readers’ advisory service
Answer inquiries regarding library procedures, functions, upcoming events, and services
Assume responsibility for the reference area in the absence of full-time reference librarians
Provide the patrons of the Needham Free Public Library with accurate and reliable information about a wide range of topics with consideration to the Library’s overall goals of equity and inclusion
Meet the interests of the community and stay informed and aware of current events and trends
Assist users with technology, help maintain the adult and teen library collection and staff busy service desks

Requirements
The following requirements may be substituted by any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job:
To be considered for the position, applicants must have at least:
Master’s Degree in Library Science (May consider MLS candidates)
One year of professional experience
Ability to troubleshoot the reference computers, public computers, printers, and personal devices

Supplemental Information
Work Schedule:
Part-Time, 9 to 19 hours per week
Wednesdays and Thursdays 1-5:30 p.m.
Saturdays 9-5 p.m. and Sundays 1-6 p.m. on a rotation (1 in 4 weeks)
(The library’s open hours on Sundays are 1-6 p.m. After Memorial Day weekend and before Labor Day weekend, the library’s Sunday open hours are 1-5 p.m.)
