Davidson’s E.H. Little Library seeks a collaborative and enthusiastic Media Creation and Curation Librarian to join our award winning team

As a key member of the library’s Digital Learning team, you will help shape the team’s strategic directions as we move toward the next iteration of Davidson College’s library. Relying on your experiences in digital media projects and pedagogies – including but not limited to videography, podcasting, or other genres of multimedia storytelling – you will help students, faculty, and staff craft the stories that underlie their scholarship. As a contributor to our robust library instruction and consultation framework, you will help our communities navigate the expansive landscape of digital media tools and resources so that they might think critically with and about digital technologies. Additionally, you will bring your project management experiences to bear on an impressive portfolio of projects and services that includes some directly in the purview of the Digital Learning team – e.g. Davidson Domains, digital media creation, thesis and syllabus collection management – as well as collaborations across teams – e.g. Omeka projects, our innovative student employee model, library programing, strategic projects, and instruction. Importantly, your collaborative spirit and enthusiasm for growth will help us expand how we think about Digital Learning at Davidson.

In this position, you will:

  • Provide research and design consultation to students, faculty, and staff in their development of research and scholarly projects. 
  • Partner with faculty colleagues to offer in-class instruction for topics in the Digital Learning portfolio.
  • Collaborate with team members to research, contextualize, and embed critical digital pedagogy in and outside of the classroom.
  • Proactively research, recommend, and implement tools and methods for digital media creation and curation that will enhance student learning and faculty research.
  • Shape the Library’s efforts to capture and steward student and faculty scholarship, especially that which is expressed as digital media.
  • Mentor, train, and in some cases supervise student employees as a part of our evolving Library Consultant program. 
  • Engage in continuous professional self-development and professional activities; participate in professional networks to maintain current knowledge of best practices and exploration of future trends.
  • Actively collaborate in library project groups, participate in library research groups, serve on library steering groups, and contribute to ad hoc projects and initiatives as opportunities arise.

Qualifications that will help you flourish in this role:

  • You are practiced in the tools and principles of media creation, including but not limited to videography, sound recording, and editing tools (e.g. Adobe Premier Pro, iMovie, Audacity). 
  • You are committed to providing research and consultation services to researchers with varying levels of technical expertise in an active community of undergraduate scholars.  
  • You are eager to explore the intersections of emerging technologies – including large language models, artificial intelligence (AI), virtual and augmented reality – with various modes of multimedia storytelling.
  • You possess strong organizational and project management skills. 
  • You are familiar with ACRL Framework for Information Literacy, critical information literacy, universal design for learning, and other inclusive pedagogies.
  • You have knowledge of reference and research consultation services, including the reference interview.
  • You demonstrate a commitment to an inclusive environment that values and celebrates difference. 
  • You are resilient, adaptable, and demonstrate a capacity to operate flexibly in a rapidly evolving landscape.  

For this job, we require that:

  • You have a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association OR an equivalent combination of related experiences, education, and training with at least 2 years of professional experience.

Our salaries are benchmarked to national liberal arts colleges and regional colleges and universities.
