About the Opportunity:
The Northeastern University Library’s Digital Production Services department is seeking a Metadata Assistant for a part-time position. The Metadata Assistant will create and enhance MODS records for the library’s digital collections of texts, images, audio recordings and videos. The work will include creating descriptive MODS metadata via spreadsheets as part of the digitization workflow and creating/enhancing MODS XML metadata using Oxygen. The position requires some experience in MODS and/or XML, and knowledge of LCSH and name authorities. The right person will be detail-oriented and able work with minimal supervision in collaborative environment.
Qualifications:
Enrollment in an ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS or equivalent
Experience with MODS and/or XML
Knowledge of LSCH and name authorities
Attention to detail
Proven ability to work independently
Strong communication skills
About the department:
The Digital Production Services department enhances access to digital materials by reformatting, describing, and making accessible digital collections that benefit the university community and beyond. We work with university faculty and staff to digitize materials in a variety of formats, including text- based documents, photographs, and audio/visual items to support research, instruction, archival activities and community outreach. We ensure the collections are discoverable and well-described by creating rich metadata at the item and collection level. We also support the library’s Digital Repository Service, which is the primary home for storing the digital materials generated in the library and archives. The Digital Production Services department has embraced a hybrid working environment and opportunities for full or partially remote work are available depending on the requirements of the position.

Hours:
15-17 hours a week. Hours can be flexible, but must fall between 8AM and 6PM, Monday-Friday.
Pay Rate: $19 – $21 per hour
