Youth Services Assistant, East Bridgewater Public Library, East Bridgewater, MA

Position Description: The East Bridgewater Public Library seeks a creative individual who is passionate about serving children and families to be part of our Youth Services team. This position mainly works in the Children’s Room, however provides backup to the Teen Zone, and the Young Adult and Adult service desks.

Library Assistant – Youth Services is a full-time (35 hours per week) position, that includes working one evening per week and rotating Saturdays.

  • Helps to create an environment that is safe, user-friendly, and welcoming for community members of all ages, races, genders, and sexual orientations.
  • Provides extensive customer service, including answering phones and email, helping patrons to locate materials in the collection, and offering reader’s advisory services.
  • Performs circulation duties, including registering new patrons, renewing card privileges, checking out materials, processing library returns, and reserving museum passes.
  • Enforces library policies and procedures, including collecting fees as necessary.
  • Assists with planning and running library programs.
  • Assists with promotion of library events and activities.
  • Assists with processing new materials.
  • Assists with the maintenance of the library appearance, such as straightening shelves and creating monthly displays and seasonal decorations.
  • Assists with collection maintenance, including tasks such as weeding, reading shelves and shelving materials.
  • Provides coverage of all library desks as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with co-workers and patrons, always maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Performs other related job duties as required.

Education and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent, and 1 year of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience.

Salary: $23.20 – $26.90/per hour in six steps
