Library Director, Boxford Public Library, Town of Boxford, MA

The Town of Boxford has an opening for the position of Library Director to manage and lead
the Boxford Public Library. Reporting to the elected Board of Library Trustees, the Library
Director is responsible for the management and operation of the library and the programs of
service in accordance with the policies established by the Trustees. The Director works in close
cooperation with the Trustees, serving as its advisor and as an active participant in policy and
budget development, goal setting, planning and evaluations. A full job description can be found

The ideal candidate is an energetic, personable, forward-looking, collaborative, customer-driven
professional. They will have experience in library needs assessment, grant writing, and
fundraising. The successful candidate has a strong commitment to public service, recognition of
the importance of every library user, and a thorough knowledge of professional library
principles, methods, practices, and programs. They will be tech-savvy, able to both diagnose
computer and network issues and assist library users with questions about personal technology.
A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with elected officials and key stakeholders will
enable the ideal candidate to advance both library and Town goals and initiatives.
Minimum requirements include an ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science and five
(5) years of progressively responsible library administration experience, including at least three
(3) years in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Professional Certificate of Librarianship from the Massachusetts Board of Library
Commissioners (MBLC) preferred. Knowledge of the principles and practices of public library
administration, personnel management, budgeting, collection development, long-range planning,
and facilities management.
This is a 40 hour per week (Monday through Friday), benefits eligible position. Additional
hours are occasionally required to attend evening meetings and provide off-hour services, in case
of emergency situations that may occur in the evenings or during weekends.
The position is a Grade N-10 on the Town’s non-union classification plan, with an anticipated
starting salary of $90 K +/-, depending on qualifications.

About Boxford: Boxford is a bucolic New England town located on the North Shore of
Massachusetts, with easy access to Routes 95, 93 and 495. It is approximately 25 miles north of
Boston. The town embodies a colonial setting with numerous historical sites and restored
dwellings within a pleasant rural environment. It is a community with a population of
approximately 8,500 residents, many of whom are from professional and high technology fields.
Additionally, Boxford has an excellent public school system, with two elementary schools and
the Masconomet Regional Middle and High Schools.
