Position Focus:

In direct support of its migration to a new library services platform (LSP), Yale University Library invites applicants for a 3-year, full-time Library System Migration Technology Librarian. This position is designed to give the successful candidate the opportunity to play key roles in the implementation of an LSP in a leading research library, with an emphasis on the configuration and successful implementation of the Primo VE discovery service.

As a member of the Yale Library LSP implementation team in a highly collaborative environment, the System Migration Technology Librarian’s primary responsibilities include: Configures Ex Libris’ Primo VE in support of system migration project goals for its deployment. Engages in discussions involving library discovery stakeholder groups concerning the role of Primo VE in the library’s discovery landscape. Collaborates with implementation team members and other library colleagues to optimize article discovery in Primo VE; works closely with the Systems Librarian for Integrated Access and other Yale Library discovery stakeholders to customize Primo VE for Yale’s specific needs. Assists with system integrations that will leverage Primo VE functionality. Conducts troubleshooting and general support of Primo VE upon its implementation in coordination with Yale Library IT colleagues, training staff, and other library system troubleshooting staff; creates documentation, manages and tracks ongoing support issues, and advocates for support as needed. Under the direction of the Library Services Platform Senior Project & Program Director, collaborates with system migration colleagues to achieve project goals in areas including but not limited to service and system usability, accessibility, best practices, and related emerging technologies and industry standards. Participates in system migration project review, analysis, development, planning, and assessment.

Essential Duties:

1. Actively practices and advocates effective communication in all aspects of digital initiatives within the Library and throughout the YUL system. Establishes productive relationships with individuals and organizations both at Yale and at other institutions in order to advance Library objectives.2. Work closely with curators and key staff to assess feasibility, propose, and develop plans for discovery projects.3. Work with Library IT, project and Discovery groups to design and implement technical infrastructure and workflows related to Primo VE.4. Evaluate and make recommendations on discovery procedures for Primo VE and other discovery solutions at Yale, as well as YUL standards.5. Analyze researcher, faculty and student needs and develop discovery solutions to support their research. Analyze the feasibility of new services or modifications to existing Library services. Work independently or lead a project team to implement project goals.6. Assume full or partial responsibility in project management implementation of Primo VE, including management of configuration, needs gathering, gathering feedback and recommendations for improving Primo VE for production.8. Manage local and/or vendor Primo VE activities..9. Serves on various Library, Yale University Library, and Yale University committees in support of the Library and University’s mission relevant to discovery in the migration project context.10. Participates in professional activities outside of Yale and monitors developments and best practices elsewhere to help ensure the excellence of the Library’s technology activities.11. May be required to assist with disaster recovery efforts.12. May be assigned to work at any Yale University Library location.

Required Education and Experience:

1. Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent accredited degree. In selected instances, a master’s degree in a related field may be accepted in lieu of a MLS.2. Demonstrated knowledge of current national and international web content and structure standards related to library search, retrieval and web-based discovery.3. Demonstrated knowledge of usability and accessibility standards and practices.4. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communications and analytical ability.5. Demonstrated record of designing projects and bringing them to conclusion in a timely fashion.6. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and independently with various groups within a complex organization and rapidly changing team environment.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Two years of professional experience in academia or an academic research library. Ability to code and troubleshoot moderately complex web content. Demonstrated ability in the management of complex websites. Knowledge of user experience principles and familiarity with usability testing.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Knowledge of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and standards. Familiarity with Web Analytics tools and statistical analysis. Experience in an academic or research library. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Current knowledge of web and digital content technologies, and standards of interoperability, usability, and accessibility for the web.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience, work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively as a team member, and establish cooperative working relationships with colleagues. Ability to provide effective user support services including consulting, training, and documentation.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with a variety of team members and stakeholders. Ability to read HTML and CSS. Experience with and understanding of web accessibility compliance, practices and methodologies.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Skill in and commitment to documenting and maintaining documentation of web processes and/or systems, both for system documentation and for training users. Commitment to effectively supporting a broadly diverse and intentionally inclusive community. Understanding of website information architecture.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Experience with Ex Libris’ Primo VE or Primo Back Office, Blacklight or other library discovery solutions. Experience with web scripting languages such as Javascript and cloud technologies such as AWS. Experience with assessment tools. Familiarity with digital asset management systems or library metadata formats (e.g. MODS, DC). Experience using software version control, preferably Git.
