The Access & Learning Services Librarian is a highly motivated, collaborative, inclusive, and enthusiastic librarian who values a student-centered approach to the development of information literacy skills and embraces the University’s commitment to community engagement. Reporting to the Director of Library Services, the Access & Learning Services Librarian works with colleagues across the university to actively coordinate, promote, and assess library services and initiatives. This position also serves as the coordinator of the Keleher Learning Commons building schedule and hires, trains, and schedules library work-study students. The Access & Learning Services Librarian will work at the library’s service desk, deliver reference/research services, provide face-to-face and online information literacy instruction, and assist with collection management. This position is responsible for the planning, coordination, and administration of circulation and resource sharing services including interlibrary loan and document delivery, course reserves, and shelving of library materials. This position will have an outward-facing role in promoting the Keleher Learning Commons and will continue the library’s centrality to campus life by developing and maintaining a welcoming and inclusive learning environment. 

This full-time position, based on the Leavenworth campus, and works from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. M-F. Hours may include some evening and weekend hours when required for the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Learning Services

  • Develop, promote, and assess information literacy services and initiatives. Mentor colleagues in information literacy pedagogy and delivery.
  • Create and deliver workshops and/or tutorials on search and discovery, citation tools, and other information literacy-oriented topics.
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to integrate information literacy into the curriculum.
  • Develop and implement outreach initiatives, including student orientations and other activities, to promote library programming, resources, and services in consultation with the Director of Library Services.

Access

  • Oversees Access services functions including, but not limited to, opening and closing the library, circulation processes, shelving, billing, interlibrary loan, and reserves.
  • Oversees circulating collection’s maintenance, including copy cataloging of purchased or donated materials, weeding, and general collection maintenance.
  • Coordinate KLC space reservations and library staffing schedule in collaboration with the Director of Library Services.
  • Hires, trains, and schedules work-study students staffing service desk, prioritizing customer service and maintaining the library as an inclusive space.
  • Trains and coordinates schedules for graduate assistants, research services assistants, and librarians staffing service desk and other official library services staffed communication channels.
  • Select materials for the collection to meet program, accreditation, and grant activities.

Other Duties:

  • Explore and implement the continuous improvement of services and resources utilizing evidence-based decision-making.
  • Actively participate in the University of Saint Mary campus community through committees, teams, events, working groups, projects, or initiatives that further the university’s mission and library’s strategic goals.
  • Participate in university-wide events, including (but not limited to) co-curricular workshops, orientation, new student registration days, and extended finals hours.
  • Develops and maintains professional skills by participating in continuing education and professional development activities such as conferences, workshops, and committee work with professional library organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program
  • Demonstrated knowledge of information literacy principles and practices
  • Demonstrated evidence of detail-oriented and organization skills
  • Familiarity with best practices in pedagogy, particularly in library instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively, independently, flexibly, and collaboratively
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills complemented by the ability to take initiative
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and proactive assistance philosophy of service
  • Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population
