The Director of Ginn Library will provide visionary leadership, setting the strategic direction for all aspects of library operations, programs, and services tailored to the unique needs of The Fletcher School. Collaborate closely with school leadership, other Tufts libraries, and university administration to ensure alignment with institutional goals and priorities.
Essential Functions:
Strategic Vision and Planning: Collaborates with the school dean, library council, and university leadership to develop a visionary library strategy, aligning it with institutional priorities. Sets and implements long-term goals and strategies, optimizing resource utilization.
Leadership and Organizational Culture: Provides clear direction and leadership to library management and staff, including staffing and organizational plans that align with services, programs, and priorities. Fosters a culture of diversity, collaboration, and teamwork within the organization.
Service and Program Management: Directs and assesses all services and programs at Ginn Library, guiding outreach strategies and cultivating strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and school leadership.
Public Relations and Communication: Oversees public relations and communication plans for the library, consulting with school leadership on high-profile projects and issues, ensuring effective communication within and beyond the library.
Technology and Innovation: Leads and reviews library technology projects and initiatives, managing relationships with Tufts Technology Services (TTS), and negotiating technology service delivery within the library.
Financial Management: Directs budget management for the library, negotiating budgets with school leadership and cost-sharing with other Tufts libraries, and overseeing long-term financial planning. Actively seeks and secures resources through grants and fundraising for service and program development.
Expertise in Collection Development and Management: Demonstrated proficiency in navigating complex library acquisitions, including managing big deals, open access resources, and effectively overseeing print collection management to align with evolving academic needs and budget considerations.
Representation and Engagement: Serves as the primary internal and external representative of the library on school and university-wide committees and working groups. Actively participates and may lead local, regional, and national organizations, contributing substantially at all levels.
Research Leadership: Spearheads the development and execution of a comprehensive research strategy, including curating and maintaining a relevant collection, and providing research support to faculty and students.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Drives DEI initiatives within the library, promoting cultural competence, fostering an inclusive environment, and collaborating with campus partners to advance diversity and equity.
Library Advancement and Fundraising: Proven ability to identify, cultivate, and secure external funding sources, grants, and partnerships to enhance and expand the library’s collection, ensuring access to a diverse range of resources and materials.
Community Building: Cultivates a cohesive and vibrant library community by creating inclusive spaces, organizing engaging events, and facilitating interdisciplinary connections among students, faculty, and staff.
Space Management: Directs the utilization and management of physical library space, including construction and renovation plans to optimize functionality.
Basic Requirements:
Knowledge and skills as typically acquired through:
- Master’s degree
- 10+ years of related experience
- Advanced expertise and leadership experience with current and emerging issues, trends, workflows, business models and best practices in library management
- Experience with strategic, library-wide technology planning and implementation including budgeting and vendor negotiations and management. Experience with long-term, strategic budget planning and management. Experience directing strategic plans, projects and initiatives, including oversight of planning and development, review and approval and managing implementation
- Demonstrated success managing strategic partnerships and communication with library, school and university leadership. Commitment and experience leading diversity, inclusion and equity initiatives in higher education
- Experience managing a library or multiple library departments, approving hiring, staffing models and plans and professional development opportunities
Pay Range
Minimum $124,100.00, Midpoint $155,150.00, Maximum $186,200.00. Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
