Job Description
The Georgetown Peabody Library seeks an energetic, enthusiastic, outgoing librarian to serve the teens of Georgetown. This is a full-time professional position reporting to the Library Director. This position averages 36-40 hours per week including evenings, a rotation of Saturdays, or as designated by the Library Director. Mondays 12-6pm, Tuesdays 12-8pm, Wednesdays 12-8pm, Thursdays 10am-5pm, and Fridays 10am-5pm. A Saturday shift would be 9am-1pm (September to June).This position is responsible for the overall planning and delivery of Teen Services at the Library. This includes planning, implementing, and developing programming and outreach initiatives for young adults in grades 6 and up. This position oversees the young adult collection including selection and weeding, and reader’s advisory/reference. The Teen Librarian also creates the content for the Teen pages on the website and social media. This position also supports the general library activities such as covering the Circulation and Reference desks, technical services, and interlibrary loan. The Teen Librarian will represent the library at system and community meetings and stay up-to-date on professional developments through participation in professional organizations, system meetings, workshops, and continuing education opportunities.
Salary: $26.49/hour. Position includes town benefits, vacation, holiday, and sick pay.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of experience in a library setting are required or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Master’s degree in Library Science and/or one year of experience working with teens is preferred.
Skills
Proven ability and desire to work effectively with the public. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Experience with the use of the Internet, social media, databases and library systems (SirsiDynix Symphony preferred). Ability to work independently and as a team member. Detailed oriented and exhibits considerable judgment skills.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must communicate, talk and hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and reach with hands and arms; frequently is required to walk and sit; and occasionally is required to climb or balance. The employee frequently must lift and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds; and seldom lift and/or move objects weighing up to 60 pounds. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges to read documents and analyze data. This position requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and to operate a keyboard at efficient speed.
