Reference Librarian (Part-Time), Goodnow Library, Sudbury, MA

The Goodnow Library is seeking a part-time Reference Librarian with excellent interpersonal skills, including customer service, conflict resolution and communication. This position will require both the ability to problem solve in a fast paced, public facing environment and the initiative to accomplish tasks during periods of downtime. A basic understanding of computer and technical skills is essential for this role as well as an enthusiasm to learn new software. Essential Functions:

  • Work at the reference desk assisting patrons in person, by telephone and electronically.
  • Searches, selects and utilizes library materials in a variety of formats to assist with patron needs.
  • Provides information to patrons of all ages on library resources, services, activities and policies.
  • Assist in creating displays and book lists to showcase library collections.
  • Contributes to fostering teamwork by: attending staff meetings, sharing ideas on how to improve library services; being aware and notifying the team of activities, situations or issues relevant to library operations.
  • Serving as a Passport Acceptance Agent.
  • Performs similar or related work as required.

Schedule: Average 14 hours per week. Includes two evenings and rotating Sunday schedule.

Job Environment: In-person. There is not an opportunity for remote work at this time.

Compensation: Position classified as Grade 6 of Town of Sudbury FY2024 classification plan. Starting pay will begin at Step 1; $25.58 per hour. Payment will be received on a bi-weekly basis. Eligibility for yearly step increases will be reviewed one year from hire date. Cost of living increases may apply. This position is not benefit eligible.

Qualifications

Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS degree; students currently enrolled in MLS program will be considered
