Project Appraisal and Inventory Archivist, Harvard University, MA

Description:

** This is a two-year term position.**

Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply by the end of the day on October 20, 2023.

The Harvard University Archives (HUA) seeks an innovative, collaborative, and motivated individual to evaluate, inventory, and work with HUA staff to transfer or take retention action with a large number of Harvard University records (largely late twentieth century in a variety of formats, including paper, audiovisual, and early digital records) identified during the Harvard Depository Legacy Records Project (HDLRP). The HDLRP, which was completed in 2021, focused on assessment of previously un- or under-identified materials stored at the Harvard Depository for further retention/transfer action.

Reporting to the Associate University Archivist for Collection Development and Records Management Services (AUACDRMS), and working closely with the Senior Collection Development Curator/Archivist, the Project Appraisal and Inventory Archivist will provide detailed appraisal and assessment of records eligible for transfer to HUA for permanent retention, evaluate the potential scholarly, historical, and/or administrative value in the records, and prepare basic information about the records for future accessioning.

Harvard University Archives has joined with the Eda Kuhn Loeb Music Library, Fine Arts Library, Harvard Film Archive, and Houghton Library to create Archives, Arts, and Special Collections of Harvard Library, an administrative unit engaged in planning integrated approaches to public services and technical services for archives and special collections across the portfolio.
