Fairbanks North Star Borough Public Libraries (Fairbanks, AK) seeks an innovative, collaborative, and
motivated Technical Services Librarian. This role is responsible for the original call numbering and
bibliographic record creation for the library, as well as developing cataloging and processing policies and
procedures. As an expert in cataloging, the person in this role provides direction and training to other
Collection Services staff and collaborates with libraries in the Alaska Library Consortium on state-wide
cataloging projects.

Responsibilities: The Technical Services Librarian provides original and copy cataloging based on current
standards, assigns call numbers, and resolves cataloging problems. The position is responsible for
staying current in best practices and up-to-date cataloging policies and use that knowledge to provide
training, lead projects, and develop procedures for cataloging and processing. Additional responsibilities
include professional work in the areas of cataloging, reference, collection development, or other specific
fields as needed.
Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited university or college.
  2. One year of recent experience as a professional librarian with experience in cataloging. Evidence of
    recent concentrated coursework in cataloging and one year of experience as a professional librarian may
    substitute for recent professional cataloging experience.
    Compensation: Permanent, Full-Time. Starting wages $33.19/hr. Yearly raises according to the following
    Salary Table for Grade 13.
