Live in House Manager, VA Medical Center, Boston, MA

Overview:

Employer: Women’s Transitional Residence Program (TRUST House), VA Boston Healthcare System
General Duties: Primary responsibilities are to provide after-hours and weekend coverage in a residential mental health treatment program for up to 6 women veterans. The position responsibilities are to monitor and maintain the safety and security of the house and veterans along with two other house managers. Ideal candidates have good interpersonal skills, an interest in helping women veterans recovering from difficult experiences, and are reliable and detail oriented. The House Manager works 1-2 weeknight shifts per week and 1-2 weekend shifts per month. A one-year commitment to the job is required.


Compensation: House Managers live rent-free in a private, furnished room in the residence with all utilities included (incl. cable and Wi-Fi). The house is located on a residential street in Jamaica Plain, with easy MBTA access (Green St, Forest Hills, 39 bus). House Managers use a private kitchen and private office space. House Managers have access to the back porch, garden space, and free laundry in the basement. Off-street parking available. This is not a paid position.

Specific Duties:

  1. Work Shifts:
  • Weeknights (1-2 per week): 5:00pm to 7:30am the following morning (e.g. 5:00pm Mon to 7:30am Tues)
  • Weekends (1-2 per month): 5:00pm Friday to 7:30am Monday
  • Holiday Shifts – 3 House Managers share 10 Federal holidays equally
  • You are allowed to sleep overnight while on duty but may be awakened in an emergency
  1. Conduct urine drug screens and alcohol breath tests to support veteran’s sobriety
  2. Meet regularly with the program director and other house managers for supervision and training
  3. Ensure veterans’ adherence to program policies and safety procedures
  4. Ensure the safety and security of the house and the veterans
  5. Drive the program van to transport veterans and/or supplies for the program
  6. Communicate with program director or other staff about changes in a veteran’s behavior that might be indicative
    of medical, psychiatric, or behavioral problems
  7. Contribute to a warm, supportive environment for veterans in recovery from PTSD & substance abuse disorders
    Additional information: Veterans in the TRUST House work at the VA medical center and attend mental health
    treatment on weekdays. The residence is closed to our residents but open to house managers from 7:30 am to 5:00
    pm on business days. House managers coordinate with one another to cover shifts to allow for vacation time.
    COVID-19 Considerations: House Managers are expected to follow any medical center and state guidelines regarding
    PPE, community activities, and travel at all times. Vaccination is required.
