Assistant Library Director/ Head of Technology and Innovation, Westwood Public Library, Westwood, MA

Overview:

The Town of Westwood welcomes applications for the position of Assistant Library Director/Head of
Technology and Innovation. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, care about accuracy, want to
learn new computer and Maker Space skills, and can handle stressful situations with grace and good
humor. Additionally, the Library is seeking someone who is excited to engage in all aspects of Library
services, including acquisitions, collection management, website design, and more.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Selects, implements and maintains Library technology services and infrastructure for Library staff and patrons.
  • Provides direct and general supervision to the professional, technical, clerical and administrative Library staff, as well as volunteers.
  • Assists with the day-to-day operations of the Library, including coordinating the work of all divisions at the Main Library and Islington Branch.
  • Actively contributes to the achievement of the Library’s Long-Term Strategic Plan’s goals, objectives and activities. Provides leadership and direction for strategic planning and staff development initiatives.
  • Stays current on Library /technology innovations, trends, software and upgrades in network technology by attending conferences, seminars and through literature.
  • Diagnoses hardware and software problems and implements solutions.
  • Develops technology competencies for staff, creates training and trouble-shooting manuals; holds staff training sessions, as needed.
  • Participates in department budget preparation; monitors expenditures and approves purchases.
  • Manages LAN, including computers and peripherals; installs, configures and maintains software.
  • Serves as Library representative on various committees and working groups.
  • Promotes Library services through marketing, public relations and outreach activities.
  • Assumes management of Library operations/staff in the absence of the Library Director.

Qualifications and Experience:

Master’s degree in Library Science from an A.L.A.-accredited school required. Five years of progressively responsible experience in automated Library network, including at east three years of supervisory experience. Advanced courses/degree in technology preferred. Knowledge of hardware/software purchasing, installation, configuration and maintenance. Significant demonstrated experience with Library instruction and educational technology.

Salary and Benefits: Full-time, 40 hours per week with an annual salary range of $77,948 — $97,346
