Job Description
The University of Texas Libraries seeks a Creative & Instructional Technologies Librarian to advance the mission of UT Libraries’ inclusive makerspace, The Foundry, located in the Fine Arts Library. This position will primarily work with faculty and students from across campus and disciplines to advance creative inquiry through workshops, interdisciplinary course-integrated instruction, and point of need consultations. This position will partner with Foundry staff to identify outreach opportunities and contribute to day-to-day operations of the Foundry. This position will also support adjacent instructional technologies within the library. The individual in this position will have the opportunity to provide chat reference services, serve on internal library committees, partner with Libraries staff on creative and instructional technology services, and engage with the academic library maker community.
Salary range: $52,000 + depending on qualifications
Work shift: Monday – Friday, between the hours of 8am and 6pm, as arranged with manager. Flexible work arrangements with limited remote work available after the completion of a probationary period.
Responsibilities
- Incorporate the Foundry makerspace into teaching and research across campus.
- Contribute to development of instructional and creative technology for the UT Libraries.
- Participate in and support unit, department, division and Libraries-wide projects and initiatives.
- Professional development and professional contributions.
- Other related functions as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- MSIS/MSLS or other graduate level degree. Current students expected to graduate by December 2023 are welcome to apply.
- Experience working in a library, cultural heritage organization, or museum setting.
- Demonstrated experience supporting or working with instructional technologies or teaching with technology.
- Enthusiasm for working in a creative educational environment.
- Excellent communication (written and oral), interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, and judgment in working with patrons from diverse populations.
- Punctuality and professional demeanor.
- Ability to work on multiple, overlapping projects with limited supervision and as a member of a cross functional team that is committed to providing excellent customer service.
- Strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility.
Preferred
- Background in fine or performing arts.
- One year of post-graduate professional work experience.
- Experience providing library instruction.
- Experience working in creative educational environments or makerspaces.
- Enthusiasm and commitment to creative pedagogy and the creative arts as evidenced through volunteer, professional, or educational experience.
Working Conditions
- May work around standard office conditions.
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation; use of manual dexterity.
- Occasional evening and weekend work.
- Occasional: lifting objects (up to 25 pounds), bending, kneeling, walking, standing, climbing of stairs.
- Work environment has low levels of noise created by makerspace equipment.
