The Children’s Librarian, under the general direction of the Youth Services Supervisor, provides general library services for young library users and provides special library services such as story times, crafts, summer reading program, and other creative programming to promote reading and enhance the lives of young library users. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that all children of Hopkinton are  given the opportunity to explore, discover, and connect.

Hours: 40 hours/week including at least one evening per week;  required to participate in the weekend rotation.

$28.83 – $34.59 / hour

Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of public library principles, practices, policies and procedures, including extensive knowledge of customer service best practices, automated library systems, and other library-related software. 


Knowledge of children’s literature and children’s reading programs and activities.


Ability to communicate effectively in writing with various audiences including public officials and the general public.


Computer skills that encompass effective use of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, email, social media and library software.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in library and information science or similar field from an American Library Association accredited program with one (1) to three (3) years progressively responsible library experience with a primary focus on Children’s services; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
