HELP WANTED

CATALOGING SUPERVISOR
This position oversees the preparation, processing and both original and copy cataloging of library materials, is responsible for creation of catalog records and collection maintenance in accordance with professional standards, and provides assistance with daily operations of the library including public service desk responsibilities. Position reports to the Assistant Director under the supervision of the Library Director.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Responsible for maintaining the collection in an organized and orderly fashion
● Assists with cataloging supplies ordering
● Responsible for museum pass acquisitions and cataloging
● Opening and/or closing supervisory tasks one evening a week and some Saturdays
● Participates in inspecting and recording of new materials shipments
● Processes all materials (donations and purchases) or prepares for assistant
● Repairs and cleans damaged materials, or gives to appropriate supervisor for potential
replacement or billing; assists with weeding and other collection-related projects
● Trains and supervises people to assist with technical services
● Keeps staff up to date with new cataloging policies and procedures
● Enters holding information into SAILS central cataloging module
● Represents the library at SAILS technical services committee meetings
QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:
● Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent public library experience
● Technical services library experience preferred, especially with SirsiDynix Workflows
● Highly motivated and able to work independently, prioritize, and adapt to a variety of tasks
quickly
● Accuracy and attention to detail
● Good organizational skills
● Good communication skills, both written and oral
● Able to understand and follow written and oral directions
● Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, Friends, volunteers and the public in a courteous and tactful manner
● Able to work independently while coordinating and communicating work projects and initiatives with others
● Excellent public service skills and a genuine enjoyment for working with patrons of diverse
backgrounds
● Comfortable working with computers and current technology (including Windows, Microsoft
and Google products)
● Willing and able to learn new library procedures and practices
● Must be flexible in order to adjust to workload and library schedule

Public Service Desk Responsibilities:
● charges and discharges library materials including reserves and renewals
● answers telephones
● assists patrons in the use and location of library materials
● issues borrowers’ cards
● reserves museum passes, computer times, and study rooms
● explains and upholds library policies and procedure
● maintains confidentiality of patron records and other sensitive information
● assists patrons in the use of library resources and technology (online catalog, printers, copiers, computers and other devices)
● provides basic readers’ advisory and ready reference services
● upholds the American Library Association “Library Bill of Rights” and the “Freedom to Read Statement”
● may assist with re-shelving of materials
● assists with opening and closing procedures

Physical demands
● physical ability to lift, retrieve, sort, push carts, and shelve materials at high and low levels
● manual dexterity needed for keyboarding and other repetitive tasks
● vision must be good or corrected to sufficiently perform job duties

Position is 35 hours per week and includes evening hours and a Saturday rotation. Expected hours of work: Mon 12:30-7:30, Tues-Thurs 9-4:30, Fri or Sat 9-2:30.

Beginning Salary: $47,000
