General Description: 
The Baylor University Libraries seek an innovative, service-oriented second Curator to help build and expand access to the Armstrong Browning Library (ABL) collections. A research center and museum dedicated to the study of poets Robert Browning, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and nineteenth-century literature and culture, the ABL promotes and supports the research, teaching, and appreciation of the Brownings and the broader field of nineteenth-century studies by faculty, students, scholars from around the world, and the general public. Working collaboratively with a team of library professionals, the Curator will contribute to the ABL’s mission through reference, instruction, outreach, and collection development. Recent graduates of an ALA-accredited program and early-career professionals are encouraged to apply. This is a full-time, 12-month, on-site, academic-professional position with faculty status.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the leadership, vision, and direction that facilitates the promotion of and access to the ABL’s collections by a broad audience
  • Provide exceptional research and reference services and support as part of a dynamic service-oriented team
  • Seek opportunities to collaborate with faculty and academic departments to incorporate collection materials into graduate and undergraduate curricula to enhance teaching and learning
  • Connect a wide variety of users to the ABL and its resources through tours, presentations, instruction sessions, social media, and the development of physical and digital exhibitions
  • Build and manage, in coordination with the Director, the ABL’s collection of rare books and manuscripts to support the teaching and research needs of Baylor faculty, students, and the broader scholarly community
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in Cataloging & Metadata Services and Digitization & Digital Collection Preservation Services to increase discovery, access, and use of collection materials
  • Participate in planning, policy development, and ABL decision-making
  • Assist with fundraising, grant writing, marketing, and outreach
  • Train and supervise graduate and undergraduate student workers as needed
  • Pursue professional development opportunities through local, regional, and national conferences, meetings, and workshops and involvement in professional organizations 
  • Engage in library-wide initiatives through committees and task forces 
  • Meet University and Library expectations for service and scholarship, including participation in the academic library community through research, presentations, and writing  
  • Perform other duties as assigned
