Ontology/Taxonomy Consultant, Enterprise Knowledge, (Arlington, VA)

Enterprise Knowledge (EK) is hiring for a full-time Ontology/Taxonomy Consultant to join our growing Data and Information Management Practice. This individual will support dynamic and fast-paced semantic solutions for a range of commercial and federal clients that provide the opportunity to learn fast and grow quickly. We are seeking a well-organized, curious, and quick learner who will tackle diverse challenges with creative solutions. The right candidate will love logic and rule-based systems (think logic puzzles, workflow diagrams, linguistics and grammar rules, mathematical proofs, set theory, etc.). The Ontology/Taxonomy Consultant will be part of a team working on semantic solutions to complex problems, developing ontologies and knowledge graphs to organize and unify information, and leveraging inference to make sense of large quantities of data, answering practical questions, and uncovering unexpected connections.

Responsibilities:

Technical

  • Assist with design and supporting documentation of enterprise ontologies, using semantic standards like RDF, OWL, SKOS, and SPARQL
  • Assist with design and supporting documentation of enterprise knowledge graphs using semantic standards like RDF, OWL, SKOS, and SPARQL
  • Support integration of taxonomies, ontologies, and knowledge graphs to solve enterprise challenges
  • Support the implementation of semantic tools, such as taxonomy/ontology management tools, graph databases/triple stores, etc.

Analytical

  • Analyze content and data sources to discover the core components and relationships for a given business domain
  • Understand, review, analyze and evaluate business needs
  • Listen to client needs to come up with solution architecture
  • Analyze functional requirements from business stakeholders

Communication

  • Coordinate and collaborate across business and technology functions to ensure comprehensive solutions are delivered
  • Support client meetings, presentations and trainings to technical and non-technical audiences

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Understanding of and passion for logic (e.g., logic puzzles, linguistic and grammar rules, mathematical proofs, set theory, formal logic, etc.)
  • At least 5 years designing and managing taxonomies, thesauri, and/or ontologies
  • 3 – 5 years of consulting experience
  • Ability to adapt to new technology
  • Ability to problem-solve and learn new skills quickly and effectively
  • Ability to synthesize critical aspects of discovery for project team members 
  • Detail-oriented to be “last eye” on deliverables 
  • Basic understanding of prioritization approaches for content and data analysis
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, and visual)
  • Ability to understand client business requirements and co-facilitate client meetings
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust (Moderate) Clearance.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, English, Library and Information Science, Linguistics, Mathematics, Philosophy, or other field related to logic or rules.
  • Experience using visual diagramming tools (e.g., Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart, Draw.io)
  • Basic understanding of XML or JSON
  • Basic understanding of Agile and waterfall methodologies
  • Basic understanding of enterprise search functionality
