Due to retirement, the Wellesley Free Library is seeking a fearless, flexible and fun leader to join
our team full time (35 hours/week). The Information Services Supervisor oversees the day-to-
day operations of the Wellesley Free Library’s (WFL) Information Services Department. The
incumbent supervises and schedules seven permanent Departmental personnel and has
supervisory responsibility for collection development of the adult materials collections as well as
development and promotion of innovative programs for adults and teens.
Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Information Services Supervisor manages the
Department’s staff and services, and works with the Supervisory Team to meet Departmental
goals and objectives. The incumbent’s work requires the ability to stay abreast of ever-changing
resources and practices in order to meet the technological, cultural and informational needs of
the community. The ability to communicate, exercise good judgment and utilize common sense
is essential in order to identify problems and analyze, plan and implement successful solutions.
The successful candidate will have strong communication and interpersonal skills; the ability and
willingness to handle multiple responsibilities in a changing environment; strong conflict
resolution and problem solving skills; ability to consistently work calmly, diplomatically and
accurately, even in high pressure situations; ability to adapt quickly and easily to new procedures
and practices in a continually evolving environment. Work hours will include weekdays, some
evenings, and some weekends.
The starting salary is $34.41 with an excellent benefit package. Required: Master’s Degree in
Library and Information Science with five years of reference, readers’ advisory, collection
development and research experience and a demonstrated ability to supervise others, including a
thorough understanding of the principles of effective supervisory management.
