Position Title: Sunday Library Supervisor
Library: Turner Free Library, Randolph, MA
Start: September 2023
End: May 2024
# of Hours per Week: 4.5 (alternating Sundays)
Salary: $30/hour
Description:
The Turner Free Library is seeking welcoming, customer service oriented candidates to supervise the library on Sundays from 12:30-5pm from September 2023 through May 2024. The Sunday Library Supervisor will work with a high degree of independence and will need to exercise considerable judgment, develop rapport with library patrons, effectively and diplomatically resolve issues and complaints, and supervise and support library staff.
Additional, non-Sunday hours will be offered to the Sunday Library Supervisor on an on call, per diem basis.
This is a non-benefitted, temporary position.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provides exemplary customer service to patrons from a large array of national, lingual, and cultural backgrounds; routinely addressing complaints and effectively resolving complications
- Sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills; flexibility and adaptability in stressful situations and times of change
- Provides staff supervision on Sunday afternoons
- Provides circulation desk coverage in both the adult and children’s departments, with tasks including but not limited to: answering phones, checking patron materials in and out, completing hold lists, straightening shelves, conducting readers advisory, providing computer assistance and troubleshooting, issuing and replacing library cards, assisting with reserves, aiding with materials processing, collecting fines, preparing and sending overdue notices
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required. A Master’s Degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school is preferred
- Computer proficiency required. Candidates should be proficient to advanced in the use of common office applications and familiar with digital library resources (i.e. Libby, Hoopla, Kanopy, Mango Languages, NoveList, etc)
- Multilingual applicants are encouraged to apply
Special Requirements:
Work is performed under typical public library conditions, but there is some moderate to heavy lifting of books and other materials.
