Description: The Nichols Library Board of Trustees seeks a self-directed, customer-focused, data-driven, forward-thinking individual who is passionate about libraries and their role in small communities for its Librarian/Library Director. This individual will help design and implement a new, innovative service model for our library, expand onsite and virtual programming, revitalize our patron base, and provide traditional, core library services to the greater Center Harbor community. The Librarian serves as our chief administrative officer and is responsible for the administration and daily operations of our library in accordance with NH RSA 202-A:16 and the bylaws, objectives and policies adopted by the Board of Trustees. The historic 1910 Nichols Library is located in a friendly, small town in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, within a short walk to the shore of beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee.
Supervisor: The Librarian/Library Director is accountable to, supervised by and reports directly to the Library Board of Trustees.
Recommended Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science from an American Library Association accredited degree program preferred. Minimum of five (5) years in library management, non-profit leadership or other relevant experience. Able to articulate a strong vision of libraries in the future and re-imagine library services. Knowledgeable about NH statutes concerning town libraries, as well as labor law. Understands that the Board of Trustees is legally responsible for governance and the overall operation of the library. Recognizes the impact of the library budget upon residents, especially in a small town, and is able to design, justify and implement services and programs accordingly. Open to new and different ideas and can think outside of the box. Values and respects collegial debate. Ability to multi-task, problem-solve and be flexible. Excellent interpersonal skills. Communicates effectively in writing and verbally. Familiarity with current library software (Atriuum) and technologies, as well as virtual programming and social media platforms.
Hourly Wages: Commensurate with education and experience. This is a part-time, 30-35 hours/week position for FY 2023. Depending on library needs and Town funding, this position may possibly become full-time in FY 2024.
