Information Technology Librarian, Hampstead Public Library, (Hampstead, NH)

Hampstead Public Library is seeking to hire an INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY LIBRARIAN

This position is full-time; 40 hours per week.  Some evening and Saturday hours required.

SCOPE OF WORK:  The Information Technology Librarian implements, maintains, supports, and enhances a wide range of technologies and systems to provide innovative library services and ensure access to the library’s extensive range of online information resources and digital collections. In addition, the Information Technology Librarian educates patrons to improve technology literacy. This position also supports library staff and local and remote library users in the use of existing information technology as well as the adoption of new and emerging technology. Ensures a reliable, accurate, responsive, efficient, safe and secure information systems platform for library service delivery. This position reports to the Director.

MAJOR DUTIES:  Responsible for design, implementation, integration and daily operations of the Library’s integrated library system, communication systems, web server, internet access, telecommunications and related evolving technologies. Responds to staff calls for help, troubleshoots and solves hardware and software problems, monitors overall system performance, implements improvements, and works with the Director to develop long-range technology plans. Maintains library website. Provides technology training to staff and patrons. Maintain documentation and inventory of equipment in the library. Supervises, assigns, coordinates and reviews the quality and quantity of work of the custodial staff. Communicates with and manages relationships with contractors and vendors. Assist patrons on circulation and reference desks as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Minimum of 2 years of library (or equivalent organization) Information Technology experience including personnel supervision and technology planning. Knowledge and understanding of the role of appropriate technology in a public-serving organization setting is necessary. Practical knowledge of a wide range of technical methods, principles and practices similar to a narrow area of a professional field and skill in applying this knowledge to such assignments as the design and planning of difficult projects. Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with a Master’s Degree in Library Science (or similar) from an American Library Association accredited institution is a plus. Knowledge of library practices, procedures, and research techniques welcomed but not required. We will train the right candidate.  Customer service experience is beneficial in this role.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:  Knowledge of computer hardware, software, operating systems, email platforms, productivity software, data security and backup systems. Knowledge of website management technologies and library management systems. Knowledge of audio-visual equipment including microphones, projectors, video camera, etc. Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes day, evening and Saturday hours. Ability to adapt and teach emerging technologies. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with library staff, trustees, town employees, volunteers, and library patrons.

Salary range: $58,996 – $73787, commensurate with experience and degree completed.
