City of Gloucester Assistant Library Director, Sawyer Free Library, (Gloucester, MA)

The Sawyer Free Library in Gloucester is seeking its next Assistant Library Director. This position is instrumental to shaping public services in our current temporary location and in our renovated and expanded 2025 Sawyer Free Library. This position is perfect for someone who has a broad skillset in managing people and projects, and excels in an environment of constant change. This is a full time, 35 hour a week position. Salary Range: M7 – $72,552.08 – $92,521.07.

Reporting to the Library Director, the Assistant Library Director is a managerial position with responsibility for supervising and managing public services and personnel. Primary duties of the Assistant Library Director include, but are not limited to:

Overseeing library programming, including assessing community needs, planning, budgeting, scheduling, publicizing and evaluating adult and youth programming.
Serving as a member of the Corporate Communications Committee, liaising with PR professionals and developing marketing materials to promote library programs and services.
Managing the implementation of the annual collection development plan and budget for physical and online resources.
Overseeing the assessment of new technologies and the integration of selected technologies into public service delivery.
Supervising and developing non-exempt staff, including seven Librarians and two Department Supervisors, as well as overseeing volunteers.

Qualifications

Masters of Library Science plus three to five (3-5) years of experience working in a public library of which one or more years of experience is in public service in a supervisory or managerial role or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience are required.
