General Summary of Position:

The Part-time Sunday/Monday Access Services Associate will open and monitor the building on Sunday, supervise student assistants, provide light reference service, such as ready reference and providing appropriate referrals, assist in the processing of Interlibrary Loan requests, retrieve and ship materials as requested through RAPID and ILLiad, and receive and process incoming materials for use. Hours for this position are 12:30pm-8:30pm on Sundays and Mondays during the academic year including the following federal holidays: Labor Day, Indigenous People’s Day, Veteran’s Day, President’s Day, Patriot’s Day. Occasional additional hours, especially during final exams, may also be required.

Reporting to the Access Services Manager/Librarian, the candidate will perform the following job duties: 

1. Open the Library 

  • Serve as building monitor, including opening the building on Sunday, supervising student workers, and resolving patron issues.  

2. Provide light reference service 

  • Provide light reference service to patrons such as directing users to databases, instructing patrons on using the online catalog, making referrals to Reference specialists. 

3. Assist in the processing of materials 

  • Process Interlibrary Loan requests with ILLiad software.
  • Obtain copyrighted materials exceeding fair use guidelines using ReprintsDesk software or OCLC’s IFM payment system.
  • Retrieve and ship materials as requested through RAPID and ILLiad.
  • Receive and process incoming materials for use. 

4. Register patrons for library privileges 

  • Register patrons for library privileges. Issue Boston Library Consortium Cards. Issue Walk-In Interlibrary Loan borrowing cards. Maintain patron accounts. 

5. Other job duties 

  • Communicate with other UML offices such as UCAPS and Campus Security. 
  • Participate in shelf-shifting projects. Assist in collection weeding activities.  
  • Other duties as assigned by the Access Services Manager/Librarian, or Head of Access & Technical Services.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education:  

  • High School Education or GED/equivalent 

Skills:  

  • Demonstrated experience with computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some college and experience in a library environment are desirable
