The Durham Public Library in Durham, New Hampshire is seeking an energetic and skilled
library professional with a technology background and management and leadership
experience to join our team as Assistant Director.
Durham, NH, home to the University of New Hampshire, is within easy driving distance of the
Seacoast, Lakes Region, and the beautiful White Mountains. With a population of ~16,000
residents (including the student population), the Durham community boasts a top-notch public
school system and all the benefits of living/working in a college town.
The ideal candidate will possess a broad range of library services and technology skills, will
excel at prioritizing work tasks, be adept at managing workflows, and comfortable juggling
various responsibilities. The ideal candidate will also uphold the Library Bill of Rights and the
freedom to read, be invested in building community, and foster effective working relationships
with staff, partners, and patrons.
The Assistant Director responsibilities include managing library technology, online resources,
and adult service’s staff. Additionally, they will have some responsibility for collection
development, community engagement, day-to-day facilities management, and
marketing/communication. This individual will work closely with the Library Director and is
responsible for the Library in the Director’s absence.
This is a full-time (37.5 hr./week) position with benefits. Hiring salary range is $62,500.00 to
$68,000.00. An MLS or equivalent degree is required. A full job description, including
