Common Services Supervisor (Library Operations Supervisor / Senior Supervisor), PennState, (State College, PA)

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The University Libraries is currently seeking candidates for a Common Services Supervisor who will effectively lead staff in delivering exemplary customer service at the Pattee Library and Paterno Library.  Reporting to the Manager of Common Services, this position is part of a supervisor team who are responsible for the day-to-day operations of services across the first floor of the library, whose staff direct users (both on site and by phone) to a wide array of library services and resources. The Common Services Supervisor supervises full-time and part-time employees working varying hours providing leadership, training, support, and ensuring that all meet the level of service expected.

Responsibilities of the position include hiring staff with outstanding customer service characteristics. This position will have a focus on training staff on the tools and resources needed to successfully perform the job; coordinating with a team to create a training program with individual, group, and online components; and maintaining the accuracy of the training program by reviewing it routinely. The Supervisor is expected to participate in relevant Libraries’ committees and working groups, especially outreach activities that promote library services.  

This position requires in-depth knowledge of personnel management, including the ability to establish outstanding customer service at public service desks; a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion; and excellent verbal and written skills.  The successful candidate must be a strong team player, able to collaborate with others in the department and across the libraries to ensure a high level of service. A high degree of accountability and independence is needed to be successful at completing many of the duties and responsibilities of the position. This position typically works Monday thru Friday 9am to 6pm. Although this position will primarily be on-campus, limited hybrid arrangements may be supported.  Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree or higher plus three to six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior supervisory experience strongly preferred.
