Description of  Duties:

The F. Franklin Moon Library at SUNY ESF seeks a forward-thinking Assistant or Associate Librarian with skills and passion in one or across the following areas of opportunity that were identified by institutional strategic planning:

  • Environmental Sciences & Environmental Health
  • Quantitative Sciences – Data Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics
  • Online Education, Micro-credentialing, Open Scholarship

Reporting to the Director of College Libraries, the Assistant/Associate Librarian advances the educational and research mission of the College by developing and enhancing library services and programming within the scope of an area of opportunity.

In collaboration with colleagues and students across the institution, including remote campuses, implement multi-faceted programing utilizing our existing resources as well as identifying and implementing new tools to provide high quality, innovative, and needs oriented services to a diverse body of students, faculty and staff. This position will require excellent interpersonal skills, as well as oral and written communication skills.

It also requires a varying schedule which includes working some evenings, weekends, and holidays. We are particularly interested in candidates with a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness and encourage candidates of all experience levels and library backgrounds to apply.

Primary Responsibilities:

General responsibilities within one of the above areas of opportunity:

  • Collaborate with others and work individually to plan, implement, coordinate, promote and assess a variety of programs and services in one of the areas of opportunity.
  • Work closely with the Director of College Libraries and other colleagues to investigate and implement new technologies and strategies that would support local scholarship initiatives.
  • Keep Director of College Libraries informed about developments that may require changes in library resource allocations and/or services within an area of opportunity.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement group and one­ on ­one instructional opportunity for the students, faculty, librarians, staff, and administration on one of the above areas of opportunity.
  • Within the frame of the area of opportunity, actively participate in college wide initiatives to develop and design services, policies, and infrastructure to enable students and faculty to advance their learning, teaching, and research.

In addition to specific jobs responsibilities, all library faculty:

  • Participate in the liaison program to promote and sustain a cooperative and consultative relationship between the library, academic departments, and remote campuses. 
  • Participate in instruction of a credit-bearing information Literacy Course. Participate in systematic assessment that supports information literacy learning outcomes.
  • As members of the ESF faculty, participate in College governance and/or serve the College in other ways as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate an active commitment to the library profession as described in Appointment, Promotion and Continuing Appointment (Tenure) Policies, Procedures and Standards, Part B: Librarian Faculty Holding Academic Rank on the Syracuse Campus.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or working knowledge in one or across the following areas of opportunity.
  1. Environmental Sciences & Environmental Health
  2. Quantitative Sciences – Data Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics
  3. Online Education, Micro-credentialing, Open Scholarship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of abilities that will help the library achieve its strategic goals:
  1. Lead in Critical Information Curriculum Delivery.
  2. Innovate Research through providing enhanced support at every stage of the research lifecycle.
