BC Libraries’ Technology Support Specialist splits their time between the O’Neill Library’s Digital Studio and O’Neill and Bapst Libraries Access Services. As a bridge between these areas, the Specialist facilitates greater communication about and coordination of O’Neill and Bapst Libraries technology support services. This position reports to the Head of Digital Scholarship and Data Services with additional management provided by the Circulation and Collection Maintenance Services Manager.
In the Digital Studio, the Specialist oversees and provides support for technologies and media production spaces. In Access Services, the Specialist provides support to the Libraries Lending Technology Program, i.e., coordinating the purchasing, processing, storage, and lending of technologies. The Specialist is also trained in circulation procedures and policies and will be scheduled to work at the main circulation desk in O’Neill Library.
In both the Digital Studio and Access Services, the Specialist is responsible for contributing to desk management, equipment tracking, technology troubleshooting, student employees training, coordinating student worker shifts, and providing communication and outreach about Digital Studio and Access Services technologies to the Libraries and BC community.
The Social Work Library at Boston College is seeking an Evening Supervisor to join our
enthusiastic, collaborative, and service-focused team. We’re looking for someone who will enjoy
helping library users, leading a group of library student assistants, working in a dynamic
environment, operating different types of library technology, and overseeing library facilities.
As an Evening Supervisor, you will:
● Train and supervise library student assistants
● Interact with users to assist with Social Work Library resources and services
● Process course readings for all Social Work courses and make them accessible
in Canvas
● Provide assistance to Social Work faculty and students with Canvas
● Oversee maintenance of the Social Work Library facilities
● Oversee maintenance of the Social Work Library technology (e.g. printers,
scanners, laptops, iPads, chargers and adapters)
● Perform all types of circulation related tasks, including checking out of library
materials, processing returned items, placing holds, and renewing items
The Head of Library Systems & Applications provides overall direction and management of the Boston College Libraries’ technical infrastructure, enterprise systems and applications, website development, library systems’ usage analytics, and software development lifecycle utilities and platforms. Reporting to the AUL for Technology, Metadata, and Archival Services, this position works closely with library administration and other library and campus stakeholders to set the direction for innovative services and technologies that will support and enhance research, learning, scholarship and teaching. This position manages a department of 5 FTE and works with both library staff and university ITS to ensure the smooth, reliable operation of the libraries’ key systems and the development and implementation of new applications and services. The Head of Library Systems & Applications also works with external vendors, user groups, and service providers to evaluate and mature new library technologies.
