Digital Archives intern (Part Time), Northfield Mount Hermon – Schauffler Library – Gill, MA

The Schauffler Library at Northfield Mount Hermon, an independent co-educational boarding school in western Massachusetts, seeks a part-time digital archives intern for the 2023-2024 academic year for 10 hours/week. 

The Schauffler Library is at the heart of campus and occupies an important physical and virtual space at Northfield Mount Hermon. The Digital Archives Intern position plays a key role in the Library team in continuing our work in developing a digital presence for Special Collections and Archives collections. We seek a dynamic self-starter to work closely with the Archivist and other members of the library team in delivering exemplary service to the Northfield Mount Hermon community; key duties will include:

  • Process new and existing archival collection materials in all formats using ArchivesSpace
  • Process collections identified as high priority by the Archivist 
  • Develop, implement and reinforce policies, procedures and best practices for metadata creation
  • Apply effective project management strategies and communicate clearly with project stakeholders
  • Regularly staff the Library’s multiservice service point two afternoons per week (Wednesday and Thursday, with the remaining hours per week flexible)
  • Work one-on-one with students engaged in scholarly activities 

Candidates are expected to have experience in equity and inclusion work that would support a diverse community in a boarding school environment. They should also have a demonstrated interest in making a positive impact on the lives of adolescents.  

This position would be ideal for a recent graduate with a Master’s degree in library science or equivalent experience; we will consider outstanding candidates who have not yet received their degrees but have completed core coursework. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a demonstrated capacity to work effectively with colleagues and other members of the community. 

This position begins in late August 2023, and runs the academic year, through May 2024.  Hourly Salary range: $19.00-$20.00/hour
