Company Information and Work Environment:
The Eldredge Public Library (EPL) was a gift to the people of Chatham from one of its natives, Marcellus Eldredge, in 1896. The EPL is now privately managed by a Board of Trustees and a Director as a 501(c)(3) organization, with the land and building owned by the Town of Chatham. The EPL strives to meet the informational, recreational, and cultural needs of Chatham residents and visitors, and it continues its historical tradition as a free public library, providing professional and exceptional customer service, exemplary materials, resources and programs, current technologies, meeting space, academic support and opportunities for community connection and public discourse in a safe, inclusive and neutral setting.

Role Overview:
The Circulation Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the circulation of materials throughout the Eldredge Public Library. This includes technical and clerical support to various library services and programs; as well as managing the circulation staff by scheduling, assigning, monitoring, reviewing, and evaluating their work. The role involves frequent contact with library staff, patrons, volunteers, and others; requiring experienced skills in understanding people, sensitivity to varying points of view, and a willingness to take on challenges with confidence and professionalism. This person supports the overall mission of the library by providing excellent front-line customer service in a manner that contributes to an inclusive and positive patron and employee experience. The ideal candidate is compassionate, approachable, and supportive.

This position reports to the Director and is a full-time, hourly position, Tuesday through Saturday, with
required availability of Tuesday and Thursday until 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Knowledge and Skills:
● Basic understanding and application of the theories, principles, and practices of customer service and logistics management.
● Knowledge of library circulation concepts and procedures, including the issuance, item management, and accounting for a wide variety of library materials.
● Knowledge of management theories, principles, and practices.
● Skill in using computer databases, including catalog and circulation systems.
● Physical ability to lift/carry up to 40 pounds, frequently standing, walking, bending, typing, and kneeling. Must be able to perform duties in an office setting, subject to quiet to moderate noise.
Experience:

● Training, scheduling, assigning, monitoring, reviewing, and evaluating the work of assigned staff.
● Identifying and resolving operational problems.
● Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
● Working with diverse populations and providing services in a non-judgmental and non- discriminatory manner.
● Operating standard office and library equipment such as personal computer using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and other related software, printer, copier, and fax machine.

Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s Degree or higher
● 2 years supervisory experience, Library preferred
Core Responsibilities:
● Maintain up-to-date best practices in performing all jobs related to the circulation services, including but not limited to: renewing library materials; receiving and processing reserves and system-level hold requests; handling the bookdrops; managing the front desk
● Day-to-day supervision of circulation staff, providing support and ensuring accuracy and compliance with policy and process.
● Delegating and managing staff schedules, responsibilities, and workload duties.
● Communicate and train circulation staff on any new or updated systems and information, consistently assessing proficiency and accuracy.
● Schedule regular check-ins with staff, set and review goals, and provide feedback and recognition.
● Collaborate with management to develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures in all areas related to circulation, cataloging, collection maintenance, and general public service practices – executing adjustments as needed to improve efficiency.
● Administer and maintain the museum pass program, communicating updates to the staff and public.
● Monitor the condition of library materials for needed repairs or replacements, as well as regularly reviewing and following up on damaged, missing in transit, or incomplete item returns.
● Monitor and coordinate all circulation functions including new accounts, patron notices, account permissions, reserves, daily workflow of delivery of items from other libraries, generating and fulfilling page requests, and addresses customer service issues related to these functions.
● Oversee the delivery of library materials to homebound patrons.
● Act as local liaison with the CLAMS network on circulation matters.
● Serve as a resource for employees and patrons for general information on library services; assists and instructs in the use of services and equipment.
● Manage social media for the library; executing campaigns to promote programming and events, as well as increase patron and community engagement.
Benefits offered:
Paid Time Off: Paid time off benefits are offered to all permanent employees working at least 7 regularly scheduled hours per week. Employees who work at least 7 and under 20 hours per week are eligible for PTO. Employees with a minimum of 20 hours per week are eligible for vacation, wellness, and bereavement time.

Paid Holidays: The Library observes 15 paid holidays a year. In addition, holiday equivalents are offered for those not scheduled to work on an observed holiday.
Medical: The Town of Chatham offers and administrates group health insurance benefits. Medical, Dental, Vision and Life insurance
Other Benefits: The Library offers an IRA to employees working at least 20 hours, and short and long- term disability to employees working at least 30 hours a week. Training and development: All employees are eligible to participate in training, seminars, and workshops applicable to the growth and development of their current role and future goals.
