Access Services Coordinator, Harvard Business School, Baker Library, (Cambridge, MA)

Less Than Half Time (LHT)

We are looking for someone with excellent customer service skills to proactively welcome and engage with patrons when identifying and addressing their needs. The individual will contribute to the day-to-day running of the services desk and Stamps Reading Room, and performing collections maintenance and resource sharing tasks. Additional responsibilities may include working on special projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively as a team member to close or open the library.
  • Provide circulation and ready-reference assistance in the Stamps Reading Room.
  • Communicate and apply library policies.
  • Support library and collection security measures.
  • Help maintain an orderly, safe, and quiet space for researchers.
  • Provide directional and technology assistance.
  • Check book returns and reshelve books.
  • Assist with data entry, and routine clerical duties.
  • Perform collection maintenance, scanning, and resource sharing tasks.
  • Supervise student assistants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education or experience required.
  • Strong public service orientation, with previous library or customer service experience required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience with a library management system such as Ex Libris.
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills.
  • Perform repetitive tasks with attention to detail, and overall accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Ability to effectively solve problems, exercise good judgment and follow-through, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Work in a diverse user and team environment, and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
  • Ability to be flexible and respond positively to fluctuating workflow and change.

Physical Demands:

  • This position involves frequent use of a computer keyboard, mouse, and barcode scanner.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to push and maneuver a loaded book truck weighing up to 80 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, sit, and stand for long periods of time.

Location:

All hours are on site at Harvard Business School, Baker Library, 25 Harvard Way, Boston, MA 02163
Pay Rate:

$17/hour
Schedule:

14 hours/week

·         Academic year: Weekdays + evening and weekend hours (THU 3-7pm, FRI Noon-5pm, SUN 2-
7pm; exceptions for holidays)

·         Summer and other breaks in the academic calendar: Weekdays (THU 10am-5pm, FRI 10am-
5pm; to be determined)

·         Hours may change based on departmental needs.
Benefits for Less than Half Time (LHT) staff:

·         Time off with pay in the form of Sick Time (accrued at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours
worked) and Jury Duty/court appearance.

·         Time off not covered by Sick Time or Jury Duty/court appearance is without pay.
