Head of Adult Services, Forbes Library, (Northampton, MA)

The goal of this position is to create a welcoming environment, free from barriers to access. The Head of Adult Services will coordinate with other department heads to facilitate comprehensive and exceptional services to the community, work with patrons to find solutions, and provide a space where everyone feels seen and valued. This position has a leadership role in planning, selecting, coordinating, delivering and evaluating library services and programs for adult patrons.

Essential Functions:
May include, but are not limited to:
● Member of the Leadership Team, which recommends policies and budgets to the Libraryʼs board
● Hire, train, supervise, evaluate and schedule staff
● Coordinate public services for the department
● Provide direct customer service including public desk shis, research assistance, technology support and instruction, and readersʼ advisory services
● Manage the libraryʼs marketing efforts to engage current and new patrons, publicize library events and services, and chair the Social Media Team
● Conduct outreach in the community, including at local events, farmersʼ markets, the senior center, parks, and apartment complexes
● Plan and implement diverse and inclusive programming and chair the libraryʼs Programming committee; may assist or collaborate with the youth department to develop cross-generational programs and services.
● Create book displays, posters, flyers, and articles to promote the collection
● Lead individual and small class instruction in use of all library resources
● Participate in circulating collection management
● Responsible for administering budgets as appropriate
● A commitment to learning and growing
● Grant writing and management
● Other duties as assigned
